What metro hubs does Portmate support

Portmate supports instant drayage quoting across major US seaport and inland intermodal markets. A supported metro hub can contain one marine terminal, several container terminals, multiple railroad ramps, or a combination of port and rail locations.

This guide lists the metro hubs available for instant quotes and describes the major terminal locations represented in each market. The terminal examples are not an exhaustive directory, because terminal names and operating details can change.

Support overview

Start here if you need the supported metro list first, then use the next subsection for how Portmate treats a metro during quoting.

Quick answer

Portmate currently supports 38 metro hubs for instant drayage quotes:

Naming note: In the instant-quote metro list, Portland means Portland, Oregon, and Wilmington means Wilmington, North Carolina.

What metro support means

Metro support means Portmate can use that market as the terminal side of an instant drayage quote. You can usually request a quote in either of these ways:

  • Name the supported metro, such as Savannah, Chicago, or Houston.
  • Name an exact supported terminal or rail ramp, such as Garden City Terminal, BNSF Cicero, or Bayport Container Terminal.

When the exact terminal is not known, Portmate can use a predicted terminal or ramp assumption. That assumption is not simply a static list default; Portmate evaluates the quote context and chooses the best available supported location when no exact terminal or ramp is identified.

When you name an exact supported location, Portmate can use that terminal or ramp instead. This matters in metros where facilities are spread across a wide area, because the exact location can change mileage, route time, tolls, and price.

Metro support does not guarantee that every possible lane or shipment can be booked automatically. Distance limits, container type, cargo weight, equipment requirements, accessorials, and local operating conditions can still affect quote or booking availability.

Instant-quote metro hubs

The following sections group supported metros by broad geography while keeping each individual market as a compact list item.

West Coast and Mountain West

  • Los Angeles/Long Beach, CA: Locations: APM Terminals - San Pedro, Long Beach Container Terminal, ITS, PCT, TTI, TraPac, Fenix, WBCT, YTI, BNSF Hobart, UP ICTF, and other Los Angeles-area rail ramps. This combined port complex has terminals across San Pedro, Terminal Island, Long Beach, Wilmington, Commerce, and the Inland Empire. Naming the exact terminal is especially useful because locations can be many miles apart.
  • San Francisco/Oakland, CA: Locations: Oakland International Container Terminal, TraPac, BNSF Oakland International Gateway, and UP Middle Harbor. Port and rail coverage is centered on Oakland. The catalog connects marine terminal moves with nearby BNSF and Union Pacific intermodal options.
  • Stockton/Lathrop, CA: Locations: Port of Stockton, BNSF Stockton and UP Lathrop. This inland Northern California hub combines the Port of Stockton with rail ramps in Stockton and Lathrop, supporting Central Valley distribution lanes.
  • Seattle/Tacoma, WA: Locations: Terminal 18 in Seattle, Terminals 5 and 30, Husky Terminal, Pierce County Terminal, Washington United Terminals, and BNSF and UP ramps in Seattle and Tacoma. The metro covers both sides of the Northwest Seaport Alliance market. Exact terminal details help distinguish Seattle facilities from Tacoma facilities when calculating a route.
  • Portland, OR: Locations: Port of Portland Terminal 6, BNSF Lake Yard and UP Brooklyn. Portland coverage combines the metro's marine terminal with its principal intermodal rail locations.
  • Denver, CO: Locations: BNSF Irondale, the BNSF Hudson Logistics Center and UP 40th Avenue. Denver is an inland rail hub rather than a marine port. It serves Rocky Mountain distribution lanes through BNSF and Union Pacific intermodal facilities.
  • Salt Lake City, UT: Locations: UP Salt Lake City Intermodal Terminal, commonly shown as UP SLCIT. Salt Lake City coverage is centered on the Union Pacific intermodal terminal serving the Wasatch Front and surrounding regional markets.

Gulf Coast and South Atlantic

  • Houston, TX: Locations: Bayport Container Terminal, Barbours Cut, Manchester Terminal, Jacintoport, BNSF Pearland, CPKC Rosenberg, and UP Settagast Yard. Houston includes marine terminals along the ship channel and inland rail ramps across the metro. Providing the exact terminal can materially improve route accuracy.
  • New Orleans, LA: Locations: New Orleans Terminal, the Port of New Orleans and CN, CSX, NS, and UP rail facilities. The New Orleans hub combines Mississippi River port operations with several Class I railroad locations in and around the metro.
  • Mobile, AL: Locations: APM Terminals Mobile. Mobile coverage is centered on the container terminal at the Port of Mobile for Gulf Coast import and export drayage.
  • Tampa, FL: Locations: Port Tampa Bay, Port Manatee and CSX 62nd Street. Tampa Bay coverage includes marine facilities on both sides of the regional port market plus the local CSX intermodal ramp.
  • Miami/Fort Lauderdale, FL: Locations: South Florida Container Terminal at PortMiami, Florida International Terminal, Port Everglades, and CSX, FEC, and NS rail facilities. This metro spans PortMiami, Port Everglades, and South Florida rail ramps. Use the exact port or ramp when known because Miami and Fort Lauderdale facilities are geographically separate.
  • Jacksonville, FL: Locations: Blount Island - SSA Marine, other Blount Island operators, Talleyrand, TraPac, Port of Fernandina, and CSX, FEC, and NS ramps. Jacksonville is a mixed port-and-rail market with several terminals along the St. Johns River and multiple inland rail options.
  • Savannah, GA: Locations: Garden City Terminal, CSX Tremont Avenue and the NS/CSX Mega Rail Terminal. Savannah coverage is centered on Garden City Terminal and its connected rail network, making the metro useful for both local port drayage and inland intermodal planning.
  • Charleston, SC: Locations: Wando Welch Terminal, Hugh K. Leatherman Terminal, North Charleston Terminal, CSX Meeting Street Road, and NS North Charleston. Charleston combines several marine terminals with nearby CSX and Norfolk Southern rail facilities. The terminal name helps distinguish facilities east of the Cooper River from North Charleston locations.
  • Norfolk, VA: Locations: Norfolk International Terminals, Virginia International Gateway, Portsmouth Marine Terminal, CSX Portsmouth, and NS Portlock. The Norfolk metro represents the wider Hampton Roads container market across Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Chesapeake.
  • Wilmington, NC: Locations: the Port of Wilmington in North Carolina. Wilmington coverage is centered on the North Carolina marine terminal. It is separate from the Port of Wilmington, Delaware, which appears as a terminal option within the Philadelphia market.

Northeast and Mid-Atlantic

  • New York City/NJ: Locations: Maher Container Terminal, APM Port Elizabeth, PNCT, Port Liberty Bayonne, Howland Hook, Red Hook, and CSX and NS rail facilities in northern New Jersey. This metro covers the broad New York and New Jersey port complex. Exact terminal details are important because facilities extend from Staten Island and Brooklyn to Newark, Elizabeth, Bayonne, Jersey City, Kearny, and North Bergen.
  • Baltimore, MD: Locations: Seagirt Marine Terminal, Dundalk Marine Terminal, CSX Keith Avenue, and NS Bayview. Baltimore coverage combines the port's principal container facilities with nearby rail ramps serving the regional intermodal market.
  • Philadelphia, PA: Locations: Port of Philadelphia, Gloucester Marine Terminal, Penn Terminals, the Port of Wilmington in Delaware, CSX Philadelphia, and NS Morrisville. The Philadelphia metro spans terminals on both sides of the Delaware River and extends to nearby Delaware and Pennsylvania rail locations.
  • Boston, MA: Locations: Conley Container Terminal. Boston coverage is centered on Conley Terminal in South Boston, the metro's principal container terminal location in Portmate.
  • Buffalo, NY: Locations: CSX Buffalo ICTF and NS Bison Yard. Buffalo is an inland rail hub serving western New York and cross-border regional distribution through CSX and Norfolk Southern facilities.

Using supported metros

Supported metros are most useful when you understand how Portmate can turn a broad market name and quote context into a concrete terminal or ramp assumption for pricing.

Why terminal assumptions matter

A terminal assumption gives Portmate a real location to use when a quote request does not identify the exact terminal. Portmate first looks for exact terminal, ramp, abbreviation, address, and other quote context. If the request still does not identify one exact supported location, the prediction logic can choose a likely supported terminal or ramp so routing and pricing have concrete coordinates.

For example:

  • Quote Chicago to ZIP 60174 for a 40HC can use a Chicago terminal assumption.
  • Quote UP Global IV to ZIP 60174 for a 40HC can use the exact named ramp.
  • Quote Houston to Pasadena, TX for a 20GP can use a Houston terminal assumption.
  • Quote Barbours Cut to Pasadena, TX for a 20GP can use the exact named terminal.

The exact terminal can change the result, especially in wide metro markets such as Chicago, Los Angeles/Long Beach, New York City/NJ, Seattle/Tacoma, and Dallas/Fort Worth.

Other known terminal markets

Portmate's location catalog also contains terminals and ramps in markets that are not currently independent instant-quote metros. These locations can help with geographic lookup, terminal recognition, and future coverage planning, but naming one does not guarantee an automatic quote.

These markets are useful to know about, but they are not listed above as instant-quote metros yet. Automatic quote support can depend on factors such as:

  • Validated pricing and accessorial coverage
  • Sufficient lane history and rate confidence
  • Reliable terminal-to-metro mapping
  • Carrier capacity and operational support
  • Equipment, distance, or market-specific constraints
Important: Market or terminal size alone does not determine support. A large terminal may still require manual review, while a smaller market may become instant-quote enabled once its pricing and operating coverage are sufficiently validated.

Getting a quote

Use these notes when your requested market is missing from the instant-quote list or when you want the most accurate supported-metro quote.

What if your metro is not listed?

Portmate may know about additional US ports, rail ramps, and inland terminals for location lookup, but a known location is not automatically a supported instant-quote metro.

If your market is not listed:

  • Ask Portmate to find the .
  • Compare the nearest supported metro hubs.
  • Provide the exact terminal name in case it belongs to a supported neighboring metro.
  • Contact Portmate if the move needs manual review.

How to request a quote

For the most accurate result, include:

  • Metro or exact terminal name
  • Facility city, state, and ZIP code
  • Container type
  • Net cargo weight
  • Commodity
  • Import or export direction, when known
  • Any expected accessorials

Example:

Quote from Virginia International Gateway to Roanoke, VA 24016 for a 40HC with 18,000 kg of furniture.

You can also start with only the metro:

Quote Norfolk to Roanoke, VA 24016 for a 40HC with 18,000 kg of furniture.
