Rail ramps and equipment depots in Detroit

Livernois changed its chassis arrangements in 2026. Detroit planning also needs CN’s Fair Street reference, distinct southwest rail gates, and any Canadian return leg.

Rail ramps and equipment depots in Detroit

Detroit’s rail-container directory covers the southwest rail district, CN Moterm in Ferndale, and the CPKC Westwood reference. The most immediate planning detail is at Norfolk Southern Livernois: the railroad’s 2026 stacked-operation notice requires a chassis for an inbound pickup and removes the terminal as a chassis start/stop location.

For a Fort Street visit, distinguish the railroad release from the equipment-yard transaction and confirm which operator will receive the unit. That handoff can differ from the one needed for a Canada-bound delivery.

Livernois now needs a deliberate chassis plan

announced fully stacked operations effective March 16. It says Livernois no longer serves as a chassis start/stop location. Drivers collecting inbound shipments must ingate with a chassis, and they must leave with their chassis; bobtail outgates are not permitted under the published arrangement.

For a combined visit, the notice explains that an outbound unit is lifted off first so the chassis can be reused for the outgating move. Check the current terminal instruction for the shipment and any later changes, then make the chassis arrangement part of dispatch preparation.

The practical consequence is an additional planning step before arrival. Identify the chassis provider, suitable equipment, collection point, and eventual return. A truck sent to Livernois expecting to start a chassis there would be working from the wrong assumption. Likewise, an outbound delivery cannot be planned on the expectation of leaving the chassis behind.

Livernois is recorded at 2725 Livernois Avenue. Give the driver that terminal identity and the current visit reference. If a customer’s older instructions describe a wheeled pickup, reconcile them with the released unit’s present handling arrangement before the truck departs.

Southwest Detroit has several separate handoffs

CSX Detroit uses the Dix Avenue reference at 6570 Dix Avenue. NS Livernois is nearby within the broader rail district, but the railroads’ releases and truck processes remain distinct. The Mid-America Freight Coalition’s identifies the Dix Avenue entrance and its Livernois-Junction setting.

The 8501 West Fort Street address is associated with both the NS Delray name and ConGlobal. Treat the carrier name and transaction as essential information when an instruction uses Fort Street. Obtain the current operator confirmation rather than assuming the historical rail reference and the depot are interchangeable services.

provides the operator route for checking its Detroit depot. Tell the contact whether the intended visit is a return, release, grounded lift, or another service, and identify the equipment owner.

Ferndale and Westwood are different operating areas

CN Moterm is the Ferndale facility. CN’s gives 250 Fair Street separately from its labeled office address at 923 East 8-Mile Road. The directory above now uses Fair Street. Older Fern Street listings should not override CN’s current access directions. Moterm remains separate from the southwest Detroit rail district.

CN’s require advance submission and a gate-team reply before a new driver is sent. The railroad also cautions that its registration does not automatically stay synchronized with UIIA. A carrier introducing a driver or changing the company SCAC should complete that process before assigning the pickup and check the company identity on the interchange record.

CPKC Detroit is recorded at 12594 Westwood Street. The coalition’s explains the older CP and Oak names associated with that reference. Because that profile also discusses long-term consolidation plans, use it for identification rather than as proof of today’s service allocation. Confirm the current facility and gate with CPKC or the booking provider.

For either location, match the rail notice to the actual receiver before scheduling. A north-suburban customer and a southwest industrial receiver create different truck itineraries. The terminal assignment follows the booked and released shipment; it should not be chosen solely by proximity to the customer.

Equipment yards and cargo work

The other equipment entries are All Points on Eagle Street, Universal on Wyoming Avenue, and STG on Wick Road in Romulus. Each is a distinct location from the rail facilities. Ask the equipment owner which yard is designated and the operator which transaction has been accepted.

For a container drop, establish whether the chassis remains and how the empty-ready notice reaches dispatch. For grounding, confirm the handling at arrival and later collection. For a repair or off-hire, identify the authority and reference for that work. None of those arrangements follows automatically from a rail pickup release.

If the cargo needs a warehouse or transfer to another vehicle, obtain the receiving building and handling scope. A drayage terminal address does not necessarily identify the warehouse assigned to the job. Provide packaging, weight, piece dimensions, and the outbound transport plan. The outlines those cargo decisions.

Grand Rapids, Wayland, and Galesburg are separate West Michigan equipment destinations. They should appear as explicit additional destinations when involved in a Detroit-origin move, rather than being grouped into an unspecified Michigan equipment return.

Plan a Canadian delivery beyond the rail collection

State the Canadian receiving address, intended border arrangement, and responsible carrier and documentation contacts. A Detroit rail release identifies the U.S. unit handoff; it does not by itself settle the onward border movement or authorize a Canadian equipment return.

Coordinate freight readiness with the broker or other party responsible for the border documentation, and confirm the receiver’s appointment. If a carrier transfer or warehouse handoff is involved, name that location and the release process. Keep those details alongside the rail pickup reference so the local collection supports the correct next leg.

Finally, obtain the container and chassis destinations after unloading. They may be different locations and may require a return across the border under the carrier’s agreed arrangement. Include those legs when assessing the full proposal. Detroit’s proximity to Canada makes a complete equipment plan especially useful: a successful cargo delivery still needs a documented final handoff of the box and chassis.
