Omaha intermodal extends across the Missouri River to Council Bluffs. Railroad identity, South Avenue facilities, TSL’s addresses, and lift arrangements need care.

Rail ramps and equipment depots in Omaha

Omaha’s container-rail market includes BNSF on the Nebraska side and the Council Bluffs rail reference in Iowa. The river does not divide the commercial market, but it does matter to the truck itinerary. Name the railroad, city, state, and physical terminal when arranging the pickup.

Equipment yards include TSL’s Omaha terminal and Great Plains Interchange in Council Bluffs. The most useful planning distinction is between a rail release, a depot acceptance, and a company office address. Each answers a different question about where the truck should go.

If shipment paperwork names another service provider at a shared rail location, retain that provider and obtain the current gate instructions rather than creating a new destination from the name alone.

Match the railroad at the South Avenue handoff

gives 2722 South Avenue and container-on-flatcar capability. It provides a detailed driver map as well as separate terminal, flip, and roadability schedules. Use the window for the service needed, particularly when a grounded collection depends on a lift.

also identifies its Council Bluffs operation on South Avenue. A railroad or service name therefore needs to be read alongside the actual shipment reference. Ask the booking provider to identify the releasing party and truck process for the unit being collected.

This is a practical reason to preserve the complete rail instruction. A dispatcher working from “Omaha pickup” may have neither the Iowa-side location nor the relevant carrier reference. A dispatcher working from the terminal address alone may still need to know which service is being performed there.

For BNSF, the rail facility is 4370 Gibson Road in Omaha. Its is the operator resource for the local visit. Do not substitute South Avenue for Gibson Road, or the reverse, because both serve the broader market.

Use TSL’s terminal address for equipment work

explicitly labels its corporate office as not a container terminal. The Omaha equipment terminal is at 2501 North 11th Street. An administrative address on correspondence should not be used as the truck’s equipment destination.

The directory also distinguishes gate and lift cutoffs. Check the handling window if the container needs mounting or grounding. Scheduling around the later gate closure can leave the truck unable to perform the intended transaction.

Great Plains Interchange is a separate Council Bluffs reference at 13143 192nd Street. Use the current release or return contact to confirm its physical entrance and acceptance for the unit. Its location in the same market does not establish that it can replace a designated TSL or railroad return.

For either yard, identify the container owner, size and type, loaded or empty condition, and the purpose of the visit. Specify whether a chassis arrives with the container or must be supplied for collection. If the container and chassis are handed over separately, dispatch needs both destinations.

Develop an export around an approved empty

For a regional exporter, start with the booking’s equipment requirement and loaded destination. Ask where the empty is released, which owner authorizes it, and whether its size and condition meet the cargo’s needs. A locally positioned container is useful only when it can be assigned to that shipment.

If the export is loaded at a customer’s premises, confirm the appointment and loading method. If the cargo needs transfer from a truck or railcar into a container, arrange that handling separately and obtain the actual facility address. The explains the additional cargo and equipment handoffs.

Work backward from the loaded receiving deadline to allow for empty collection, inspection, travel, and loading. A shorter weekend handling window can affect that sequence. Check the current operator schedule for the intended day rather than assuming weekday service applies throughout the week.

If an import empty is proposed for reuse, obtain the equipment owner’s approval and the new booking reference. Do not treat the return instruction from the previous shipment as authorization to load the next export.

Include the full regional delivery

For an inbound shipment, give the carrier the actual receiver address and unloading arrangement. A customer in Nebraska and a customer in Iowa may use the same commercial rail market while requiring different road and equipment-return legs.

For a live unload, coordinate the receiver’s appointment with terminal availability and the final return. For a drop, agree on the empty-ready notice and later collection. If the receiver cannot accept the container on the available rail pickup day, obtain an approved holding arrangement and include its lift or chassis assumptions.
