Terminals, rail ramps, and equipment depots in Charleston

Wando Welch is across the harbor from North Charleston’s terminals. Rail-yard roles, the Navy Base development, and chassis arrangements add distinct planning questions.

Terminals, rail ramps, and equipment depots in Charleston

Charleston container planning begins with the harbor side and terminal. Wando Welch is in Mount Pleasant. North Charleston Terminal and Hugh K. Leatherman are separate North Charleston operations. The rail references on Meeting Street and Goer Drive add different handoffs, while local equipment yards serve their own release, return, and maintenance tasks.

SC Ports is also developing the Navy Base Intermodal Facility. It is useful context for future rail connections, but a project announcement should not replace the physical facility on a current shipment’s release.

Use the exact SC Ports terminal abbreviation when it appears on paperwork: WWT for Wando Welch, NCT for North Charleston, and HLT for Leatherman. Carry the street address with it when arranging the driver’s visit.

Wando Welch and the North Charleston terminals

is the Long Point Road reference in Mount Pleasant. SC Ports describes it as its primary container facility, with refrigerated-cargo capability and large-vessel operations. For a truck delivering elsewhere around Charleston, its position on the Mount Pleasant side is a meaningful starting point for the route.

uses Port Access Road in North Charleston. Identify HLT specifically when the booking or release names it. A shared city with NCT does not imply a shared receiving gate or unit release.

is the Remount Road reference. Check its current receiving instruction for the transaction. An empty-return advisory can designate a terminal differently from the import’s original discharge point, so the loaded pickup and later return should be treated as separate instructions.

For all three, use SC Ports’ current customer tools to reconcile the vessel, unit, release status, and visit. A container visible in a vessel schedule is not necessarily available to a truck. Arrange the customer’s unloading slot around a pickup that can actually proceed.

Rail yards and the Navy Base development

The CSX facility reference is 4201 Meeting Street. Norfolk Southern’s Seven Mile Yard reference is 4350 Goer Drive. Retain the railroad and specific ramp name when a shipment involves a rail pickup or delivery. A marine-terminal release should not be redirected to either rail yard solely because the container is part of an intermodal supply chain.

SC Ports’ describes the roles of CSX and Norfolk Southern in its inland network. Ask the booking provider where the unit will be handed over under the actual service and whether any truck transfer is required.

The describes a developing near-port yard with planned service by both railroads and a dedicated connection to Leatherman. It also discusses associated rail and road works. This is development context; confirm operational availability and the assigned facility before booking a shipment around it.

Chassis instructions do not replace container acceptance

ConGlobal on Bainbridge Connector, RoadOne on Cherry Hill Lane, and Forward on Cross County Road are separate equipment references. provides the operator check for its depot. Confirm the transaction and accepted equipment at the designated address.

The concern participating chassis arrangements. A chassis location does not by itself authorize an ocean-carrier container return. The box and chassis may have different receiving points, references, and service windows.

For a grounded collection, arrange the suitable chassis and lift. For a mounted return, determine whether the chassis stays with the box. If a hold is needed between terminal pickup and customer delivery, agree on the yard, dates, and equipment condition before the move is dispatched.

Plan the customer visit and export sequence

Give the carrier the receiver’s actual premises and unloading method. A Mount Pleasant pickup for a North Charleston warehouse is a different itinerary from an NCT pickup for the same customer. Add the authorized equipment return before comparing the complete service.

For a live unload, discuss the time expected at the receiver and whether the next yard handoff fits its window. For a drop, agree on empty-ready reporting and later collection. For cargo transfer, supply the handling building, packaging, quantity, dimensions, weight, and outbound vehicle. The explains the additional work.

For an export, confirm the terminal and vessel receiving dates, then work backward through loading and authorized empty supply. A general gate schedule does not establish that the booked vessel is receiving the unit. Keep the booking, empty release, and loaded receiving reference together.
