Rail ramps and equipment depots in New Jersey

New Jersey's harbor-area rail ramps serve customers on both sides of the Hudson. ExpressRail Elizabeth and E-Rail are in Elizabeth; Croxton is in Jersey City; South Kearny is in Kearny; and the North Bergen and Little Ferry references use North Bergen addresses. Their freight can serve New York City and the wider metropolitan area, but the truck pickup still starts at a named New Jersey facility.

The distinction is especially useful when a booking says only “New York rail.” Ask the transport provider to identify the railroad, released ramp, container number, and collection reference before arranging the local move. The market name describes a commercial destination, not a universal interchange gate.

ExpressRail Elizabeth is different from E-Rail

describes ExpressRail Elizabeth as an on-dock rail operation serving the Elizabeth marine-terminal complex, with CSX and Norfolk Southern connections. Its Tripoli Street reference is useful for identifying that operation. It does not turn every vessel-to-rail container into a local drayage pickup.

For cargo booked through an ocean carrier to an inland rail destination, first establish who controls the port-to-rail transfer and where the container will next be available to the customer. The inland pickup may be in another market altogether. Booking an extra truck without clarifying the rail arrangement can duplicate work already included in the transport service.

Norfolk Southern E-Rail, at 322 Third Street, is a separate facility reference. Use the to reconcile the name on the release. Elizabeth, ExpressRail, and E-Rail are related geographic labels, but they do not justify substituting one collection instruction for another.

When an independent transfer is required, the order should show the releasing location, receiving location, applicable references, and who supplies the chassis. Obtain acceptance at the receiving end before moving the box out of the first terminal.

Croxton, South Kearny, and the North Bergen district

Croxton, also called North Jersey Intermodal Terminal, is the Norfolk Southern County Road reference in Jersey City. The corroborates its identity. A driver instruction shortened to “NS Newark” loses the information needed to distinguish it from E-Rail.

CSX South Kearny uses Old Fish House Road. The provides local terminal context. A customer moving a unit from Croxton to South Kearny needs an authorized terminal transfer, not simply a revised address in the same delivery order.

North Bergen and Little Ferry use different addresses, at Tonnelle Avenue and 83rd Street respectively. are the starting point for the railroad's current service information. Resolve the exact ramp from the shipment record; a North Bergen city label is insufficient because both facilities use it.

Rail availability and the required handling window should be checked together. A unit may be on site but still require a release or a specific lift arrangement. Have the carrier confirm what transaction it can complete rather than treating a terminal's general gate hours as the answer to every service question.

The equipment handoff can be somewhere else

Newark's equipment streets require the full operator and street number. The current uses 915 Delancy Street. Diamond, Interport, Liquid Cargo, and Port Container Yard are distinct entries nearby. Medlog's Kearny address should not be confused with CSX South Kearny just because the city appears in both instructions.

For a repair, identifies its Stockton Street operation. Send the work authorization and equipment-owner reference, and establish whether the unit arrives mounted or needs a lift. A condition assessment or repair acceptance is a different arrangement from an empty return.

For a return, ask which owner or pool has authorized the yard to receive the unit. Equipment acceptance can depend on type and date. If the destination changes after the customer unloads, revise both the truck route and the return reference before collection.

A local holding yard can help separate rail pickup from a later delivery appointment, but the agreement must identify the loaded or empty unit, chassis use, lifting, custody, and next collection. Do not interpret a directory listing as an unrestricted pre-pull location.

New York-bound delivery and the full route

A container released in New Jersey may be bound for a . Give dispatch the actual premises, commercial entrance, appointment, and unloading method. The carrier should assess the truck route from the released ramp, including the approach to the receiver, rather than quoting from a general harbor midpoint.

If the customer requires cargo transfer into domestic equipment, identify the warehouse and handling scope independently from the container-yard stop. Our explains the additional freight information required. Rail collection, cargo transfer, final delivery, and empty termination should appear as separate responsibilities where different parties perform them.

For a direct container delivery, decide between a live unload and a drop before fixing the pickup. A dropped box needs a dependable empty-ready notice and a later truck assignment. Keep the equipment return and any separate chassis destination in the original itinerary so the commercial scope ends with an accepted handoff, not simply with arrival at the customer's dock.
